Choose the Ring, Not Just the Diamond
An engagement ring has to work as a complete piece. Diamond quality matters, but so do setting security, proportions, metal choice, comfort, ring profile and how the design will work with a future wedding band.
We can help you compare ready-made rings with bespoke options so you are not forced into one route simply because it is what is currently in the display.
Natural and Laboratory-Grown Diamonds
Gold Factory sells both natural and laboratory-grown diamonds. They are both crystalline carbon and can have the same grading characteristics, but their origin, rarity, market and resale behaviour are different.
We can explain the difference without telling you that one choice is automatically right for everyone. Your budget, size preference, priorities and feelings about origin all matter.
Diamond Certificates
Depending on the stone, we sell diamonds accompanied by reports from recognised gemmological laboratories, including GIA, IGI and other laboratories. A grading report identifies and grades the individual diamond; it is not a guarantee that the diamond will rise in value.
Where a diamond is certified, check that the report number and stone details correspond with the diamond supplied.
Understanding the 4Cs
- Carat - the diamond's weight
- Colour - the degree of colourlessness within the relevant grading system
- Clarity - the type, number and position of internal or external characteristics
- Cut - how effectively the proportions and finish allow a faceted diamond to return light
The best-looking choice is not always the stone with the highest individual grade on paper. Balance is important, and two diamonds with similar certificates can still look different in person.

Gold or Platinum?
We work in a wide range of precious metals including 22ct, 21ct, 18ct, 14ct and 9ct gold, plus platinum and silver. For an engagement ring, the design and stone setting will influence which metal is most practical.
White gold may require rhodium plating over time to maintain a bright white surface. Platinum is naturally white and develops its own wear pattern. Yellow and rose gold provide different colour contrast with the diamond.
Bespoke Engagement Rings
If you want a particular centre stone, unusual setting, shaped profile or completely original ring, our bespoke service can take the project from brief through CAD and manufacture.
A minimum 50% deposit is normally required after the bespoke order is confirmed and before CAD work begins. Made-to-order weight can vary by approximately ±5%, with the final price adjusted to the finished chargeable weight.
Part Exchange and Payment Options
If you have old gold or eligible diamond jewellery, ask us about part exchange. We may be able to use its assessed value towards the new engagement ring.
Payment options available through Gold Factory include eligible card payments, bank transfer and, where offered and approved by the provider, Klarna and Clearpay. Finance availability and eligibility are subject to the provider’s terms.

Can you make a bespoke engagement ring?
Yes. Bespoke jewellery is one of our specialities and CAD can be used before manufacture.
Can I part exchange old jewellery towards the ring?
Yes, subject to assessment and the part-exchange terms.
Can you make a wedding ring to fit later?
Yes. We can design shaped or matching wedding bands, including through CAD where appropriate.
Do you resize engagement rings?
Where technically possible. The price and feasibility depend on the design, metal, stones and amount of resizing required.
Can I reserve a ring online and pay the balance in store?
If the item is eligible for Click & Reserve, you can pay 10% online and follow the Click & Reserve rules to complete the purchase in store.
