What we buy

We buy gold in all common purities, broken and unwanted jewellery, scrap, single earrings, coins, bars and other precious-metal items. We also buy silver, platinum and diamonds, subject to testing and assessment.

A Jewellery Family, Not Just a Gold Counter

Gold Factory comes from four generations of jewellery knowledge. Precious metals, stones, workshop tools, weighing and testing were part of our everyday surroundings from childhood. That experience matters when you are selling something valuable, because jewellery is rarely just a number on a scale.

We assess each item on what it actually is. Purity, verified precious-metal content, weight, stones, construction, condition and the live market can all matter. We will explain the basis of our offer so you can decide whether you want to sell, part exchange or keep your jewellery.

Gold and Precious Metals We Buy

If you are unsure what an item is made from, bring it in. We can test it rather than asking you to guess.

How We Test Gold

Our assessment can involve several methods depending on the item. We may visually inspect hallmarks and construction, weigh the item on calibrated scales, use professional XRF analysis and carry out other appropriate tests such as acid, magnetic or density checks.

No single test is treated as infallible. Sophisticated counterfeit bars and jewellery can sometimes have a genuine precious-metal outer layer over a different core, so high-value or unusual items may require additional checks before a final payment is released.

Security and fraud prevention

All gold-buying transactions require identification. Where an item raises authenticity, ownership or fraud concerns, payment may be held while checks are completed. CCTV operates in-store and high-value incoming and outgoing parcel handling is recorded. We will assist the police where appropriate.

Stones, Diamonds and Non-Gold Parts

The gross weight of jewellery can include diamonds, gemstones, pearls, enamel, beads, solder or other non-gold components. When we are buying for precious-metal value, we assess the likely net precious-metal content rather than treating every gram as gold.

Our team has decades of practical jewellery experience and can estimate stone and non-metal weight where removal is not practical. Diamonds may receive a separate value where appropriate. Very small diamonds below 0.02ct do not normally receive a separate value, and other gemstones do not automatically add a buy-in value unless specifically agreed.

Identification You Need

We require valid identification for every precious-metal buying transaction. Please bring a valid passport or photocard driving licence together with an original proof of address dated within the last three months, such as a suitable bank statement or utility bill.

We may ask for further information where required for security, anti-money-laundering or ownership checks. We do not buy precious metals anonymously.

Payment

Payment is normally made by bank transfer, with cash available only where appropriate and within applicable limits and controls. Depending on the time of the transaction and the checks required, a bank transfer may be made the same day or by the following day.

We deliberately avoid promising instant payment before authenticity and security checks are complete. This protects both the seller and Gold Factory.

Selling Versus Part Exchange

If you are buying replacement jewellery, ask us about part exchange before you sell your old jewellery outright. We may be able to offer a stronger part-exchange allowance because the transaction also includes a new jewellery purchase.

Part exchange has its own terms and valuation basis, so the figure may not be the same as a cash-buying offer. We will explain both options where relevant.
