Part Exchange Your Jewellery
Use the value in jewellery you already own towards something new.
How It Works
1. Choose what you want to exchange | 2. We test and assess your old jewellery | 3. We explain the part-exchange allowance | 4. Choose your new jewellery |
5. Complete the balance and transaction |
Why part exchange can be worth more Because your old jewellery is being used towards a new Gold Factory purchase, we may offer a stronger allowance than we would on an outright cash purchase. The exact difference depends on the jewellery and the new transaction. |
A Different Option from Simply Selling
Part exchange is useful when you have jewellery you no longer wear but already know you want something new. Instead of selling first and shopping later, we assess the old item and apply an agreed value towards your replacement purchase.
The part-exchange allowance is not automatically the same as our outright buying price. We may offer more on a part-exchange transaction because the old jewellery and new purchase are assessed as one commercial transaction.
What Can Be Part Exchanged?
- Gold jewellery in common purities
- Broken or damaged gold jewellery
- Odd or single gold items
- Gold bars or coins where appropriate
- Diamond jewellery, subject to assessment
- Silver and platinum items where appropriate
- Multiple items combined towards one new purchase, subject to assessment
There is no requirement for old jewellery to be fashionable or wearable if the value is primarily in the precious metal. We will tell you if an item has value beyond its metal content.
How We Value Your Old Jewellery
We test and weigh the item, assess its precious-metal content and consider any diamonds that can reasonably be valued. The rate used depends on the type of jewellery, the transaction and the live market at the time.
We deliberately do not publish a promise that every part-exchange customer receives 100% of a particular gold rate, because different pieces have different construction, purity, stone content and commercial value.
Diamonds may be valued separately where appropriate. Diamonds below 0.02ct do not normally receive a separate part-exchange value because of the practical cost of recovery and handling. Other gemstones do not automatically receive a separate value unless expressly agreed.
Cancellation After an Enhanced Part Exchange
An important feature of our part-exchange service is that the value offered for your old jewellery may be enhanced because you are completing a new jewellery purchase.
Important cancellation rule If the new purchase is later cancelled, the enhanced part-exchange allowance may be recalculated as an outright buying transaction. The value attributed to the old gold can be up to 20% lower than the part-exchange allowance originally given. This reflects the fact that the enhanced value was offered to support the new sale. |
Part Exchange for Bespoke or Made-to-Order Jewellery
Part exchange can also be used towards bespoke and made-to-order work. Where the new item is being manufactured, the order, deposit, CAD approval, final weight and cancellation terms for the new item still apply separately.
If you want to use your old physical gold in the manufacturing process rather than simply receive a part-exchange credit, tell us before the order is confirmed. Melting previously soldered jewellery can change purity and may affect hallmarking, so this needs to be discussed as part of the bespoke specification.
Why Customers Use Part Exchange
- Reduce the cash balance needed for a new purchase
- Turn broken or unworn jewellery into something useful
- Upgrade a ring, chain, bangle or bridal set
- Move from an old design into a bespoke piece
- Use gold and eligible diamonds together in one transaction
- Avoid having to arrange a separate sale before buying
Bring Everything with You
Bring the old jewellery, any available certificates or diamond reports, your valid photo ID and an original proof of address dated within the last three months. We require identification on precious-metal buying and part-exchange transactions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is part exchange always better than selling for cash?
Not always, but it can produce a stronger allowance because it is connected to a new jewellery purchase. We can explain the options before you decide.
Can I part exchange broken jewellery?
Yes. Broken and damaged gold can still have value.
Do you value diamonds in part exchange?
Yes, where appropriate. Very small diamonds below 0.02ct do not normally receive a separate value.
Do coloured stones add value?
They do not automatically receive a separate part-exchange value unless specifically agreed.
Why can the old-gold value change if I cancel the new purchase?
Because an enhanced allowance may have been offered specifically to support the new jewellery sale. If that sale is cancelled, the old item may be recalculated on an outright-buying basis, which can be up to 20% lower.
Can I use part exchange towards bespoke jewellery?
Yes, subject to the bespoke order terms and assessment of your old jewellery.
